Aimee ~Three books being released in March for Children and YA
Is it just me, or has February flown by? All of a sudden, the first signs of spring are here. The snowdrops – white, yellow, purple – are bursting through the earth, and the shop is filled with pops of sweet yellow daffodils! The storm has passed and hopefully left you safe and unscathed. So, I am looking forward now, to taking a moment to pause on my most anticipated children’s and YA books coming out this March!
The Thief Who Sang Storms by Sophie Anderson (31/03)
Step into a world of fairytale in this exciting new novel from the author of The Girl Who Speaks Bear and The Castle Of Tangled Magic! The Island of Morovia is in the shape of a broken heart, with humans living on one side and the bird-people ‘alkonosts’ living on the other. But, this wasn’t always the case. Linnet and her father, Nightingale, have been banished to live in the swamps, away from her two best friends – Hero and Silver. Linnet wishes she could sing with the magic that her father could, and she knows she would use this gift to bring the two sides of the island together again. But, when her father is captured, Linnet must embark on a dangerous journey that will require all the bravery she can muster. This book touches on themes of love, trust, and grief. But ultimately, this beautifully heartfelt and vividly told story tells us that we have more in common with other people than that which divides us. A real must-read for 9+ year olds!
The Lost Whale by Hannah Gold (31/03)
Dive into the second novel from the bestselling author of The Last Bear. Rio has been sent to live with his grandmother, who he barely knows, in California. His mother is in hospital back home. Alone and worrying about his mum, the only thing that can make him smile is going with his new friend Marina and her dad to watch whales out at sea. Until one day, an incredible encounter with a White Beak whale changes everything. When the White Beak goes missing, Rio embarks on a journey desperate to find the whale, and somehow save his mum. This story is the perfect book for 9+ year olds about the connection we all have with nature and the unique bond between a boy and a whale that changes both their lives.
A Thousand Steps Into Night by Traci Chee (01/03)
My excitement for this Japanese-inspired fantasy YA novel is uncontainable. Perfect for fans of Studio Ghibli who crave a darker side to fairytales! Awara is a world where monsters, gods and humans coexist. Miuko is an ordinary girl with a safe, uneventful life, with her innkeeper father. That all changes when Miuko’s world is turned upside down when she is cursed to transform into a demon with a deadly touch. Miuko begins her quest to reverse the curse and return to her normal life. With the help of a magpie with a habit of theft, and repeatedly thwarted by a demon prince, Miuko must do the extraordinary to escape those who wish to hunt her down, and make a deal with vicious gods if she is to return home safe. This curse has changed everything – is saving her soul really worth forcing herself to fit back into a quiet, ordinary life she has outgrown? Or perhaps that life never fit her to begin with?
