Anthony Reviews~ Architectural Style: A Visual Guide.
I wanted to highlight a book that has recently come into our store. Architectural Style: A Visual Guide. It is a fun and fascinating incomparable guide to the histories and characteristics of building traditions across the centuries and around the globe. What I love about this book is the little architectural illustrations by Robbie Polley alongside detailed descriptions by Margaret Fletcher. There is something elegant and sophisticated about the drawings, they draw you in and bring depth to the pages. The contents are split into five sections that take you through different eras from the Ancient and classical to medieval and renaissance, Baroque to Art Nouveau, Modern and Contemporary and finishes on particular elements of buildings. The accompanying descriptions with each illustration give you that little bit extra information on what materials were used, for which part and in particular, an important part of the illustrated building.
This is a great book and gift for the architectural enthusiasts, history buffs, travellers, students or anyone curious about buildings and their environment.
