Jane Reviews~ Three by Valerie Perrin

Some months ago having read Fresh Water for Flowers by French Author Valerie Perrin I simply had to write a Blog about it. In fact, what I really wanted to do was climb a tower and proclaim it's brilliance to the World.

So I awaited her next novel with fingers and toes crossed that it would be as good. It has arrived, I've read it and it lives up to my dreams in its excellence. Another brilliant novel.

Three is the story of three ten year old children who in 1986 meet at Primary School where they bond in a most profound way. They vow to be together promising each other that one day they will leave their provincial backwater, move to Paris and never part but events intervene.

We live with Adrien, Etienne, and Nina through three decades observing with them the story of love, loss, hope, and grief along with the distance that comes with the passing of time. Throughout we meet other characters with intriguing personalities who add to the experiences of these three friends.

Once again I wish to climb that tower........

This is a long novel 555 pages but I feel Valerie Perrin needed that 'time' to make this book so complete. Perhaps her descriptive powers emanate from her being both a Photographer and Screenplay Writer thus enabling the visual to float into words.

I cried and that's always a good marker.

I've recommended Fresh Water for Flowers to so many Bookshop customers. Most have returned having loved it. I now look forward to introducing Three to the awaiting World of readers.
