Jane~ Stanley Tucci- Bit of a Crush !!!
A question............which do you generally prefer the book or the film? Do you like to read the book first before seeing the film? In the case of The Prime of Jean Brodie for me the film is the outright winner. Just love Maggie Smith's portrayal of 'a woman in her prime' whereas the book leaves me feeling indifference.
The question takes a very different slant when it comes to the Stanley Tucci biography Taste - My Life Through Food. I've just read this rather magical foodie biography at the same time as watching his BBC Sunday night meanderings through Italy. Together they make the perfect partners. When I read I hear his voice from the television and when I watch his programme I understand his passion. One enhances the other giving a greater depth to both.
Food is the thread which runs through this book and his life from early childhood to who and where he is today. It becomes a kind of religion endorsing good times and bad. He writes as though the reader is a guest at his table. You become his confidant.
Yes you've guessed it. I do have a slight crush on Stanley Tucci I must confess. Though even without the crush this book is escapism into someone else's life. Beautifully written, splattered with recipes plus his voice coming through the words in vibrant waves of enthusiasm.
If we all had a passion like his for food how colourful the World could be. Think mine may be Trees particularly on a windy Autumn day..............
