Aimee discusses- Publishing Spotlight: Nosy Crow

In the world of books, one soon discovers there are publishing houses that continually release books you are interested in. Whether that be a certain genre of fiction you enjoy, a host of writers, or a graphic or illustrative style – they do something very much to your taste. I invite you to join me as I look at one of those, for me.

One very special publisher is Nosy Crow. Nosy Crow began publishing in January 2011, and just over ten years later they are now a multi-award winning publisher, and one of the top 12 biggest publishing houses in the UK. Their aim is to create books for children, to encourage and nurture a love of reading for pleasure, while still appealing to caregivers. Last year, they won Independent Publisher of the Year, Children’s Publisher of the Year, and the International Achievement Award at the Independent Publishers Guild Awards. They are champions of high-quality writing and illustration and strive toward making environmentally conscious, ethical choices with their suppliers.

You can always spot a Nosy Crow book from their charming and quirky crow icon on the spine of their books, but here are a range I am particularly enjoying at the moment:

The Tree Book By Hannah Alice (2-5)

This board book invites younger readers to take a closer look at the hidden life of a tree as is grows through the seasons. With innovative see-through inserts, young readers can uncover layers of leaves, blossom, and branches to help answer questions such as how does a tree grow from a seed, how does fruit grow, and what happens to a trees leaves in winter?

The Girl Who Planted Trees By Caryl Hart & Anastasia Suvorova (2-5)

This is the inspiring tale of one girl inspiring her whole village to plant a beautiful forest on the mountain. Beautifully illustrated by Anastasia Suvorova, this is a hopeful and uplifting story about a community working together to battle climate change and make something that will last forever. This is a wonderful reminder that nobody is too small to make a difference.

The Insiders By Cath Howe (9+)

The latest release from the author of Ella on the Outside, Not My Fault, and How to be Me, this is the story of Callie, Ted, Zara, and Nico. After a prank gone wrong, Ted closes off and doesn’t want to talk to anybody. When a mysterious event occurs in their school building at night, the others go investigating – without Ted. This is a thrilling, heartfelt, and thought-provoking story about secrets, friendship, family, and finding the courage to be kind and brave – even if you don’t necessarily feel it
