Anthony looks at Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe, Illustrated by Robert Ingpen
I wanted to look at the Welbeck Editions of the children’s classic – Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe. This is beautifully illustrated by the Australian illustrator and storyteller, Robert Ingpen. The depth that Robert Ingpen brings to the page and aids the brilliant children’s classic really helps to capture a child’s imagination. All considering the variety of distractions that are available to all us in today’s society. There is a sense of realism to the drawings, like you stepping back in time and really getting a feel for the times that this story is set it. Each chapter is filtered with exquisite detail pictures that come with different perspectives. The style, the illustrations and design quality of this book really captures the story. That’s what a good book is all about.
There are a series of wonderful classics in this style and illustrated by Robert Ingpen from Alice in Wonderland to Gulliver’s Travels. Equally impressive and immersive.
