Katie Reviews ~ The Binding Room by Nadine Matheson
When I first heard Nadine Matheson was writing a sequel to The Jigsaw Man, I was slightly disappointed it wasn't a prequel to The Jigsaw Man but once I started reading The Binding Room I was happy a sequel was what she had created.
The book picks up where The Jigsaw Man left off with the return of DI Henley and her Serial Crimes Unit as they start investigating the death of a local pastor at a church. DI Henley discovers a hidden door that conceals a room set up for torture with the body of a man inside.
The Binding Room is written in a way that makes you invested in the investigation but also makes you feel attached to the characters and their personal life outside of the investigation. The more you read the more you're invested in solving the crimes and outcomes of the character you become.
Matheson's writing style makes the descriptions of the crimes vivid and slightly gory, not too gory though but makes it feels like these crimes are handled with the utmost respect and sensitivity, which has you backing DI Henley and her team to solve the case.
As this is the second book in the series, the plot line for the crime can be read independently from the first however the character development of DI Henley and the members of the Serial Crimes Unit references events in the first book, along with mentions of serial killer Oliver who featured heavily in the first book.
This book has left me wanting more, more DI Henley and the Serial Crimes Unit, more books either a sequel to The Binding Room or a prequel to The Jigsaw Man but either way I can't wait to see what Nadine Matheson writes next.
